|May 8th, 2017 | DEKRA's testing laboratory in the Netherlands has been accredited by the KNX Association to test and certify devices compatible with the KNX ecosystem. KNX is the largest interoperability standard for home and building automation worldwide – ensuring comfort, safety and energy efficiency.

In a safe connected world, smart products not only have to work well, but also exchange information with multiple devices. To do so, they need to "speak" the same language. KNX is considered the "English" of protocols for automated facilities. DEKRA can now test according to the standard that is well established as the largest HBES (Home and Building Electronic Systems) certification system in the world and ensure products made by different manufacturers communicate seamlessly and safely with each other.

Through a KNX certification by DEKRA, manufacturers can show that their products have been proven to be interoperable and secure by an independent third party. With the KNX ecosystem, architects, designers, contractors, building owners, and users can lower installation and maintenance costs and mitigate risks. In addition to performance, the standard describes high quality requirements for electrical, functional and environmental safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and reliability.

Exporting products worldwide with KNX

The KNX standard is currently used in 158 countries and has been approved as an International Standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1 to 7) as well as a European Standard (CENELEC EN 50090 and CEN EN 13321-1 and -2) and Chinese Standard (GB/T 20965), thus being an essential element in obtaining access to those markets. To date, more than 7,000 certificates have been issued worldwide for more than 400 member companies.

With the KNX accreditation, DEKRA is further securing its position in the growing Internet of Things market. Bert Zoetbrood, responsible for DEKRA's global Product Testing & Certification division: "The IoT market trend is driving an increasingly connected world which brings about issues related to connectivity and interoperability.
