Málaga University in partnership with AT4 wireless set up the first LTE network focusing on research

| July 7, 2014 | Malaga University (UMA) and AT4 wireless announce that the LTE network which they have recently installed at “Centro Andaluz de Investigación y Desarrollo” facilities, it’s already active and focused on research. 

The research group “Mobile Networks & Software Reliability”, which works from CAITI, has just put in place the LTE network with two base stations (NodosB), a network core, terminals and monitoring tools.

This LTE network becomes in a relevant tool for research projects that this working group is currently keep on going. Among them, it has to be noted the European 7th Framework Programme “FET4fire” about the integration of experimental platforms for researching in Internet of future technologies.

The network offers a lot of functionalities, suitable for researching, and not offered by LTE networks that provide services to end users. In fact, the network core allows the monitorization as well as advanced settings.

It should be also noted that the supplies which integrate the network are not prototypes, they are final devices. The setting up of this network has been possible through the support received from the “Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO)”. After an international competition, the Ministry has provided with several lots of specialized equipment.

AT4 wireless has brought to the project this know-how and international experience in testing and certification solutions in the field of wireless technologies.

“We have collaborated with Malaga University for more than 20 years and we are glad to contribute to this LTE network focusing on research becomes a reality”, Belén García, Marketing Manager at AT4 wireless.

“This infrastructure completes this working group equipment and allows us to attend national and european open tenders related to projects 5G, the next generation of networks. We also hope that we will be able to work with AT4 wireless in these projects, learning from the excellent position of the company in the field of mobile communications”, said Pedro Merino, LTE Network Manager at CAITI.
